My Story

My labor of love occurred in when I was 9 years old. A neighbor, Mrs. Taylor, always saved her left over pieces of soaps, balled them up and magically created a brand new soap. I was amazed. Not sure if she noticed at the time,  but she had sparked an interest in me that blossomed my intrigue in soap making.

The thoughts of soap making lingered along with other perceived ventures.  It was at the age of nineteen and I was walking home from school, down the busy sidewalks of Manhattan and I noticed a few soap stores. I was drawn into one particular store..... crates filled with homemade soaps, colors you'd only appreciate in beautiful art or in a rainbow.  The aroma left me feeling as if I was walking on clouds of lavender and lemon trees. I was in awe, AGAIN. Although I could not afford purchasing one bar that day, my train ride home back to the Bronx was filled with ideas of soap making.

Upon reaching my neighborhood,  I entered into a Bodega and purchased a box of mild beauty bars and a bottle of chamomile.  I was ready.... or so I thought.  In my kitchen, I put a pot on low heat, threw in one beauty bar and a handful of chamomile.  I waited for the magic to happen,  but was only met with smoke and the smell of salted soap. It was an epic fail,  lol.

Fast forward to the age of  twenty-three and my beautiful baby girl Leah Melody was born. Sadly, she suffered with eczema and nothing I purchased helped. "Natural" soap products were not natural.... with inclusions of names I could not pronounce.  I made up my mind. I would conquer my burnt soap fear of the past, for my long dream had met it's greatest purpose, my Leah Melody.

I researched for hours at a time, followed up daily, without miss, always putting pen to paper and finally.... I did it! I made my first batch of soap March 20, 2013. I felt an explosion of happiness and a nonstop urge to continue. My first bar of soap was like a scene from "The Lion King" when Simba was introduced to the world by his father. Behold, Bougie Bubblez was born and I was in love.
